The aluminum panels go onto the Meissen frame at Duntov’s shop six weeks before the race at Mid-Ohio.
Mid-Ohio would be the first race with Duntov teaming up with Scott Borchetta and the Big Machine Vodka sponsorship. We built Scott a new car, using a Meissen frame, similar to the car we ran at Sebring. Then Scott bought another Meissen built car on the East coast, this one a Mustang, and had it delivered to Mid-Ohio for Edward to sort out. The Mustang hadn’t been raced in years and was a total unknown. The race weekend became a series of test sessions for Edward, as he used every on-track opportunity, including the race itself, making set-up changes in an effort to get the car within the proper window.
Scott qualified his new Meissen/Duntov Camaro 15th, but worked his way to 5th at the finish. Unfortunately, the race ended with a big crash on the last lap, and the officials decided to call the race at the end of the previous lap, which dropped Scott to 9th, still a great result given the car was finished only hours before it left the Duntov shop for Mid-Ohio.
