The Big Machine / Duntov team acquired a third Meissen chassis after Brainerd, when Scott bought the Camaro that Edward had driven to a third place at COTA last year and a 7th place at Sebring in February.
With Covid cancellations at Atlanta, Indianapolis, and Watkins Glen, Trans Am scheduled a double race at VIR. Unfortunately, the weather failed to cooperate, and the cars didn’t see a dry track until the first race. Both the Big Machine / Duntov cars were unsorted since they were both wrecked at Road America, so qualifying in the wet was a crap shoot, with Edward who is normally very competitive in the wet 12th, and Scott 16th.
In the first race, finally on dry pavement, Edward managed to move up to 8th, while Scott went from his 16th starting position to finish 11th. It was his first finish outside the top 10, but with no time to test between races, that’s all that could be done. Tyler Kicera ended up winning the race, his first time on the top step of a TA2 podium.
The second race was a real cluster with the entire Trans Am paddock –all classes on track for this one. In spite of the traffic jam, Edward was running 6th when he was knocked off track by Doug Peterson, and he hit the wall between Turns 2 and 3. It was another DNF, and more wreck repair. Scott managed to stay out of trouble and finished 8th.
Left front and right rear damage, a broken wheel cut tire and another project for the boys at the shop.
