May, 2013, SVRA Spring Race at Road America
The Duntov Team takes 1st, Third and Fourth in
Saturday's Group 6 Feature Race
In his first race at Road America since 2006, Alan won the Saturday race, but a broken
flywheel ended Sunday's race early.
Jim Kitzmiller holds off Clair Schwendeman for third Tony Parella and his Duntov restored 1934 Indy Car
Alan Sevadjian (also known as the Duntov 'B' team driver) drove the company #38 1969 Corvette to a convincing win in Saturday's first SVRA Group 6 feature race. Finishing third was Jim Kitzmiller in his powerful steel gray 1969 Corvette. Clair Schwendeman finished fourth. Second place went to a whale tail GTO Porsche from nearby Milwaukee, so it knew its way around Road America like it was born there!
This was Jim's first trip to Road America, his first podium finish, and his first trip to impound! Jim has come a long way in his short racing career, and was justifiably delighted with the result. Clair, a Road America veteran, was not able to get around Jim on the straights and was unwilling to make a move on under braking, so he settled for a fourth place finish.
Unfortunately Jim's transmission broke in the enduro on Sunday, and he was parked the rest of the day. Alan broke a flywheel while leading half way through the Sunday Group 6 feature race.
The Duntov team brought Tony Parella's recently restored 1934 Indy car for its first high speed trial. We discovered the big balloon tires needed more effective shock absorbers to go really fast, so Tony used the car around the paddock to the delight of the many spectators.
