Protofab GT1 Trans Am Group 10 Corvette

The Protofab TA GT1 car was built by the Duntov team in 1981 to the then current Trans-Am rules. Eppie Wietzes had just won the Trans Am title in a similar car. The car was initially bodied as a 1982 Corvette and won every race it finished until the 1983 SCCA Runoffs where it finished 3rd, but first in class! By then fully tube framed cars were legal in Trans Am and GT1. In 1986 it was rebodied as a C4 Corvette and placed 7th in the Dallas Trans Am in 1988, but again first among Corvettes. Following the 1988 season, Gary Pratt (currently of Pratt and Miller) with Protofab Engineering sent the team a spare body from their successful 1988 IMSA campaign. The car first ran with the Protofab body in December 1993 when it lapped the field at the last SCCA race of the season at Texas World Speedway. Its last race was in October 2004 at Texas Motor Speedway where it retired with a broken differential while leading.

Grand Sport

In 2016 Duntov put the car through a total frame up restoration, including engine, transmission, differential, brakes ect. Everything. The body was taken down to its fiberglass and carbon fiber primer, repaired and repainted. Its first test session was at COTA in November 2016 where it showed potential but was not yet ready to race. Its first actual race will be the SVRA season opener in March 2017. We believe it will be a winner.
